After connecting around 890,000 customers as of Thursday, DITO Telecommunity Corp. hopes to achieve a million customers “soon.”

In a Friday press conference, the country’s third telecom said that it would expand its commercial service to include 23 new areas beginning Saturday.

“The concentration of DITO regions serviced continues to remain in the Visayas and Mindanao since we began rolling out in those regions, but Metro Manila is quickly catching up,” DITO Chief Technology Officer Rodolfo D. Santiago said.

After launching mobile services in Metro Manila and other regions of the nation last month, DITO has extended its commercial services to 100 cities and municipalities.

“By the end of June, we will have around 150 total cities and municipalities,” Mr. Santiago said.

He went on to say that DITO’s goal is to achieve a 30% market share.

Nokia Corp. revealed last month that DITO has selected the business to provide fifth generation (5G) services in Mindanao.

Adel A. Tamano, Chief Administrative Officer of DITO, said that the business has already made 5G technology accessible.

“However, further steps must be taken before it can be readily accessible commercially,” he stated.
