A Division from mining group Nickel Asia Corp. has briefly ceased activities, following the positive COVID-19 examination of some of its workers.
In an announcement on Wednesday, Nickel Asia announced that its Hinatuan Mining Corp. (HMC) has suspended mine operations from 27 October to 10 November at its Surigao del Norte mine facility to reduce the virus’ dissemination among its workers and local communities.
So far, the organization has announced that 19 workers have screened COVID-19 positively since tests at its mine site.
MC also confirmed it would begin mass testing its workers on the premises, although new quarantine and isolation facilities are available.
“Infected workers will be handled and treated in compliance with the health and safety procedures of the Department of Health ( DoH) and the Mining Site. In cooperation with the governments, tracing continues, “said the disclosure.
HMC has said that it continues to provide its workers with food and other essential needs, while enforcing steps such as social distancing and disinfection.
In collaboration with local government agencies (LGUs), the mining company said it would continue to introduce the required steps to restrict the spread of COVID-19.
Nickel Asia has, meanwhile, predicted a no substantial suspended activities of its subsidiary because at the end of its mining season, HMC has already filled their last shipments, although the other subsidiary firms, Rio Tuba Nickel Mining and Cagdianao Mining Corp. have been transferred to their other subsidiaries.
