SHAKEY’S PIZZA Asia Ventures, Inc. (SPAVI) partnered with unMeat, a local company that provides meat-free goods, to add plant-based “chicken” nuggets to its menu.
According to a stock market filing made on Tuesday, “the Goood Nuggets” would be offered nationally for P179 and manufactured in cooperation with unMeat, a subsidiary of SPAVI’s sister business, Century Pacific Food, Inc. (CNPF).
“The Goood Nuggets have the appearance, taste, and texture of chicken nuggets but are entirely meat-free. These nuggets are baked rather than fried, and are high in plant-based protein, making them healthier and kinder to the environment,” SPAVI said.
SPAVI president and CEO Vicente L. Gregorio said the plant-based nuggets follow the company’s “Goood Burger” plant-based burger, which debuted last year.
Mr. Gregorio went on to say that the goods provide consumers with nutritious meat alternatives produced from non-genetically modified organism (GMO) plant-based components with no cholesterol or trans-fat content.
“At Shakey’s, our customers’ needs come first. They were seeking for healthier, better-for-you, and better-for-the-planet goods, so we collaborated with unMeat to offer them at an affordable price point,” he stated in the disclosure.
“As we continue on our road to recovery from this epidemic, we remain committed to wowing our stakeholders by being a more responsible food business. We will continue to incorporate sustainability into our business and increase our efforts in areas that will benefit our guests and stakeholders, our company, and the communities we serve,” he said.
SPAVI’s net income for the first quarter fell by 75% year on year to P29 million, compared to P114 million in 2020. The company’s sales for the quarter dropped 30% to P1.28 billion, down from P1.83 billion in the same time previous year.
